The Oowee Pink Balance bike is another funky and fun bike from Kidzmotion, who also manufacture the Jiggy Wooden Balance Bike, which we featured recently on this website.
The Oowee Pink Balance bike is available for just £34,99, and it is definitely one for the girls in the family, with the wheels and saddle a striking pink, which complements the flower petal design on the frame. This is one of our favourite pink balance bikes!
Manufactured from birch plywood, the wooden frame is environmentally friendly and the bike is easy to manoeuvre which is one of the main advantages of wooden balance bikes.
Other features include safety handlebars which have a soft grip on either end, a soft padded seat and a saddle height which can be adjusted between three heights of 38cm, 40cm and 42cm. This means that the bike will probably be too big if you are looking for a bike for a 2 year old, as these bikes will start with saddle heights starting at 29cm. Check out our guide to balance bike saddle heights and our recommendations for the best balance bike for 2 year olds.
This is a fun bike that your kids are sure to love, and the Oowee Pink Balance bike also features a carry handle and air tyres. This gives the advantage of a more comfortable ride with plenty of ‘give’ as the rider goes over bumps and up and down kerbs. Read our guide to balance bike tyres.
The bike does require some assembly this is really straightforward so your child should soon be off and on their bike. Although it does not boast some of the features of the more expensive bikes available – the Oowee Pink Balance bike is a great way to learn to ride and is ideal for outings to the park this spring and summer!
There are several manufacturers that produce quality wooden balance bikes, and another option is the Jiggy Wooden Balance Bike. The bike is manufactured by Kidzmotion, who are a small and family run business that offer a range of balance bikes and other products. This is also the sister bike to the Oowee Pink Balance Bike.
As you can see from the image, the Jiggy Wooden Balance Bike scores well on appearance, with a retro style that offers a red, white and blue design than runs throughout the bike including the frame, the tyres and the handlebars.
The frame is made from birch plywood, so this means that it is lightweight at 4kg and good for the environment. The soft padded seat provides a comfortable ride and can be adjusted to three heights from 34cm, 36cm and 38cm. This means that the Jiggy Wooden Balance Bike would suit children from 2 years old and upwards – but make sure you read our balance bike seat guide and measure the child’s inseam first!
Other features include soft plastic handlebars with safety ends, and a carry handle so the bike is easy to transport when the rider has had enough and just wants to walk. We also think the wheels look great with a blue circular infill and inflatable tyres – just like a proper bike. Check out the other sorts of tyres that are used on balance bikes in our balance bike tyres guide.
This is a stylish and sleek wooden balance bike that will look great in the playground, on the street or at the local park. It also provides fantastic value as it is available for just £34.99. The design means that it will suit both boys and girls – so it is ideal if you have younger brothers and sisters waiting in line that the bike can be passed on to.
The Jiggy Wooden Balance bike’s nearest competitor is the wooden Boppi balance bike. This is a similar price at around £30 and is available in several different and fun designs.
Balance bikes are not just for younger children, and we have already examined the best balance bikes for 6 year olds in a previous post. Although most children of this age are ready for a pedal bike, some children like to continue with balance bikes while others are later learners.
One of the best balance bikes for older children is the Go Glider balance bike, which is suitable for children from 5 to 10 years old and is available for £129. The bike is manufactured by the Glide Bike Company, and is equipped with 16 inch wheels, which makes it a comfortable ride for older children.
The Go Glider Balance bike looks great and closely resembles a quality pedal bike, and the low centre of gravity on the bike means that children should soon be able to take their feet off the floor to begin ‘gliding’.
The Go Glider Balance bike does require some assembling, although this should not take more than about 30 minutes before you are ready for a ride. Features include a kickstand, a rear drum brake and a footrest – which can be great for the rider to stand on and perform tricks. The tyres are maintenance free EVA foam tyres.
This bike is available in several colours including blue, red, pink, green and orange.Although this bike is generally more expensive than most balance bikes designed for younger children, riders of the Go Glider Balance Bike should not outgrow their bike as quickly, especially with the adjustable handlebars and padded seat.
Many children like to continue riding balance bikes well beyond when they can ride a pedal bike – just because balance bikes are so much fun and easy to handle! The Go Glider Balance bike definitely fits into this category, and riders should be able to build up plenty of speed and a great repertoire of tricks once they have mastered the initial skills of balancing and steering.
Here is the Stompee Balance bike review for when it is back in stock!
Cool mountain bike appearance
Min seat height 35cm
The Stompee Balance bike is a great choice if your child is a budding mountain biker, produced by Stomp who are a leading pit bike manufacturer.
The Stompee Balance Bike is very popular as it has the appearance of a genuine mini mountain bike, helped by the chunky pneumatic tyres and quality build. The pneumatic tyres help to provide a comfortable ride, and kids will love the style of this bike as Stomp specialise in cool off road motorbikes.
Other features of the Stompee Balance Bike include a steel tube frame, alloy rims and a large padded seat that is adjustable from 35cm – 45cm. The light weight frame means that the Stompee weighs in a 4.2kg, and the padded seat is really comfy! It is available in several colours including black, bright blue, bright red and hot pink.
This is the only balance bike in the Stomp range, and is suitable for children from 2 years through to 5 or 6, by which time they will more than likely have outgrown their Stompee and be ready to move on to a larger pedal bike. You might find that the bike is slightly too big and heavy for a 2 year old of average height, as some other balance bikes such as a Puky balance bike have a saddle height starting at 29cm, so these may be more suitable for younger children. We have a full guide to the best balance bikes for 2 years olds here.
The Stompee Balance bike comes with plenty of features for a mid range priced bike, and these include a high performance V-brake. This is applied to the left handlebar and is attached to the rear wheel so this will help your child get used to the principle of braking as they learn to steer and balance. It will also help to save on their shoes if they learn to use it properly! Check out our guide to balance bike brakes here!
Overall, this is a great all round balance bike that looks cool and provides fantastic value at just £34 – although if you like this style of bike but can stretch your budget further then you could also consider the Specialised Hotwalk Balance bike which is priced at around £110 and offers specific models and designs for boys and girls.
Short wheel base means it can be difficult to handle
Lowest seat height 32cm
The Chicco Red Bullet Balance bike is one of the best budget balance bikes available, with the bike generally available for under £30 from new. This makes it one of the cheapest bikes on the market – so is it worth the investment and what do you get for your money?
The bike has a metal frame, and weighs in at a very light 2.7kg, although one of the reasons for the low weight is that the bike is small compared to other models. This means that although the bike is marketed for children that are 3 years or older, you will probably find that most 2 years olds will be able to comfortably use the bike, and by the time they reach 4 or 5 they will have outgrown it.
The metallic frame is painted a striking red colour on the Chicco Red Bullet Balance Bike, and features includes an adjustable seat with a lowest seat height of 32cm. This means that the bike looks great and little riders will love learning to ride on a ‘proper’ bike rather than a toy.
The handlebars are also adjustable, and the bike comes equipped with plastic tyres so it can be used as a toy inside the house or outside when you go to the park. This is a common feature on some of the less expensive balance bikes, as they are low maintenance and puncture proof. Read more about balance bike tyres in our Ultimate Balance Bikes Tyre Guide.
The bike does require some assembly, although this is quite straightforward and should not take more than a few minutes as most of the work has been done for you before delivery.
The Chicco Red Bullet Balance bike is one of the best value balance bikes around, and although it is not packed with many features it does have a sturdy and durable build and provides the basic requirements for a good quality bike.
The thin chassis, light weight and plastic tyres make it a good choice, although the very short wheel base can make the bike difficult to handle and it can show signs of wear and tear after heavy use.
Prince Lionheart is a company that specialises in innovative products for babies and young children, and there are two quality balance bikes in their range.
Prince Lionheart Balance Bike
The Prince Lionheart balance bikes are made from 100% birch plywood, which gives the benefit of being good for the environment as well as being lightweight and strong.
Their classic balance bike is aimed at the core market of 2-5 years olds, and weighs in at a competitive 4.5kg. It has a stylish and sporty design, with the wooden body complemented by the comfortable rubber handgrips, wide 12” rubber tyres and with the makers name brandished down the side of the bike and the racing number 73 on the front.
The padded seat can be adjusted to 3 or 4 different heights to suit your child, so although the Prince Lionheart balance bike is not as adaptable as some metal bikes it is perfect for a child’s first bike as they learn to balance and steer.
The Prince Lionheart Balance bike is a good quality wooden bike that won’t let you down, and gets very favourable reviews. Other great wooden bikes you could consider in this price range are the Tidlo First Balance Bike from John Crane or the Jiggy Wooden Balance bike which are both slightly cheaper bikes. Other great options in the £50 – £60 price range are Stompee, Strider and Bike Star – which are all metal bikes but great options!
The second bike in the Prince Lionheart range is the Chop Balance Bike, which has been designed to mimic the style of a vintage motorcycle.
Kids will look cool as they race around the park or the playground on one of these, and the bike has many of the features of the classic bike with rubber handlebars, an adjustable seat and air filled tyres. The frame is again made from solid birch plywood, although it is slightly heavier at 6kg.
The Prince Lionheart Chop Balance Bike is available for around £70, and a matching balance bike stand is also available!
Bike Star is a specialist German child’s bike company that produces a quality range of balance bikes made from tough and lightweight steel.
Bike Star Learner Balance Bike – Classic
The first style in the Bike Star Balance Bike range is the Classic, which has a low platform or footboard so it is ideal for balance bike beginners. The footboard allows the child to rest their feet as they scoot along, so they can easily put their feet on the floor as they ride until they learn how to balance. This is very similar feature to the PUKY LRM Learner bike.
The Classic is available in 2 different sizes, with the smallest model equipped with 10 inch wheels and is suitable for children with a height from 88cm and aged 2 and above.
Bike Star balance bike seat height
The ergonomically designed saddle is height adjustable on both models, ranging from 30cm – 37cm on the 10 inch and then rising to 35cm – 42cm on the 12 inch model , which is recommended for children over 93cm. This model is slightly heavier at 5kg, against 4.8kg for the 10 inch.
Both models share many of the same features that you would expect on a premium balance bike with a height adjustable handlebar equipped with child friendly brake handgrips.
Bike Star Balance Bikes also look great with high quality, lightweight alloy rims, a kick stand and a range of colours in a metallic paint finish.
Prices on the Bike Star Learner Balance Bike Classic start from £54.99
Bike Star Learner Balance Bike – Sport
This model has many of the same features as the Bike Star Classic, but with the main difference being that the steel framework has a sportier design without the low footboard, giving the child more room to move their legs during their ride.
This may make this bike more suitable for slightly older children that have more confidence with their balance, although the 10 inch model is still designed for younger children from 2 years onwards.
Prices on the sport model are slightly cheaper than the classic model and begin at £49.99
With quality bikes at reasonable prices, Bike Star is a great option when you are looking for the best balance bike.
John Crane is a British company that specialises in wooden toys of all shapes and sizes. They offer a small range of quality balance bikes through their own label brand, Tidlo, and all bikes are suitable for children of 3 years and above.
Tidlo First Balance Bike
£35 – £45
All John Crane balance bikes are made from replenishable rubberwood, so they are environmentally friendly as the trees have reached the end of their natural life.
Their signature bike is the Tidlo First Balance Bike, and this makes an ideal first balance bike with a study wooden structure which will help the child to get to grips with the concept of balance and steering
Tidlo bikes are brightly painted in red, pinkor blue (which may appeal to boys), and features include a padded seat, easy grip handlebars, pneumatic tyres and a bell so that they can let you know they are coming!
As with most wooden balance bikes, there is not a huge range of seat positions available but the seat height of the Tidlo First Wooden Balance bike can be adjusted to 3 different heights from the lowest height of 34cm up to 38cm. This would probably make the bike slightly too big for an average 2 year old, so we would recommend this bike to children aged 3 and above.
The Tidlo First Balance Bike weighs in at 4.7kg, and is available for around £40, so this makes the bike an excellent choice if you are looking for a great value balance bike and you would prefer a wooden bike. Other wooden balance bikes worth considering in this price range would be the Jiggy Wooden Balance Bike priced at £35, the Boppi Wooden Balance bike from £32 or the Prince Lionheart Balance Bike which is slightly more expensive at around £50.
Also available from John Crane is the ‘Branching Out First Bike’, which is also made from environmentally friendly wood and has many of the same features as the Tidlo bike.
Tidlo Scooter Balance Bike
An alternative to the traditional balance bike is the funky Tidlo Scooter Balance Bike, that is available in bright red or lemon colours.
Shaped in the style of a retro Italian scooter, this bike is suitable for children aged 3 years and above with the regular features of an adjustable seat, pneumatic tyres and easy grip handlebar.
John Crane balance bikes are definitely worth considering when you are looking for the best balance bike. The paintwork may chip off as the bikes can take a bit of a battering from smaller children, but these are quality bikes with an excellent range of features and a funky design.
The Adventure Zooom balance bike is a good all round, quality balance bike, with a sleek and stylish design and a range of excellent features.
Adventure Zooom balance bike seat height
The bike is aimed at the core balance bike age range of 2-4 year olds, and it comes with two seat posts which gives it one of the largest seat height ranges of all balance bikes as the seat can be adjusted from 34 – 51cm.
You really get what you pay for with the Adventure Zooom balance bike, as it boasts a range of quality features including a lightweight 6061 aluminium frame, a rear V-brake, quality alloy rims and Kenda tyres.
The aluminium frame helps the bike to weigh in at 5.5kg, so although this is heavier than Pukyand Strider bikes, it is still lighter than the steel frame models from brands such as Kettler. These bikes are very robust and should be able to withstand most of the knocks and scrapes that an excited young bike rider will put it through.
If you order online, then you will have to part assemble the bike, but it should come with an instruction sheet so the process shouldn’t take more than 15-20 minutes.
All these features give the bike a very professional look, and it is available in a range of colours including orange, pinkgreen and blue.
It is sure to be one of the best looking balance bikes in the playground, and it is available for between £85 – £100, This means it is towards the higher end of the balance bike market, but the Zooom balance bike is definitely worth looking at if you are looking for a quality bike!
Kettler is part of a German manufacturing group that produces a range of quality products including garden furniture, fitness equipment and table tennis tables. They also offer a range of several different balance bikes, all of which are aimed at the children aged 2-4 in the core balance bike market age range.
Kettler Speedy Balance Bike
The entry level Kettler balance bike is the Kettler Speedy Balance bike, which provides a great value option and a very good bike to get your toddler on the move. The bike is well constructed with a sturdy steel frame (although it does require some construction out of the box), but this means that the bike is likely to stand the test of time with a scratch resistant finish.
All of the basic features of a good value balance bike are included, with a padded, adjustable seat and a safety handlebar, which is useful for when the bike is dumped on the ground. The seat can be adjusted from 33 – 43cm, so while this may make the Kettler Speedy Balance bike a little too big for the average 2 year old, the large range of seat heights mean that this bike should see your child through to a proper pedal bike.
The Kettler Speedy Balance Bike also comes equipped with a hand brake, which is not always found on bikes in this price category. This can save a lot on the wear and tear of your child’s shoes as they won’t need to use their feet for braking!
The Kettler Speedy Balance bike is available in 3 different models, with options including the blue bike with 12.5 inch wheels and the pink version which is a smaller model with 10 inch wheels. Another option is the Kettler Speed Rallye Balance bike, which is available in a gender neutral grey and red design and looks sportier than the other models. All bikes come with synthetic tyres, so although this means they are low maintenance the ride may not be as comfortable as bikes with pneumatic (air) tyres.
The Kettler Speedy Balance bike (blue and Rallye versions) weighs in at 4.1kg, so this lines up with the fact that we would recommend these bikes to children aged 2 and a half or older as a 2 year old may find this difficult to handle. Check out our guide to best balance bikes for 2 year olds if your child is approaching their second birthday!
At around £33, the Kettler Speedy Balance bike will give you everything you need from a starter bike with all of the features you will need and a little bit more.
Kettler Sprint Air Rocket Balance Bike
If you are sold on a Kettler balance bike, then it may be worth spending an extra £20 or so for the next model in their range which is the Kettler Sprint Air Rocket. This bike features an innovative boarding frame with a running board, so the child will be able to get going by scooting along before they have the confidence to balance and lift their feet off the ground.
The orange and black frame is made from steel tubing, and it is scratch resistant and durable. The bike also features an adjustable padded seat and ball bearing mounted, air tyres so these will provide a more comfortable ride than the tyres on the Speed Rallye Balance bike. Safety features include a handlebar with rear brake and there is also a parking stand.
The Kettler Sprint Air Rocket Balance bike is available from between £65 – £75, and weighs 6.5kg. The heavier weight of this bike means that it would probably be most suitable for children that are slightly older as it would be difficult for a 2 year old to handle.
The Kettler Spirit Air Starlet is a very similar design, but comes in a striking, two tone pink colour so it is perfect for any little girls in your family. It is also equipped with the running board, steel tube frame and pneumatic tyres. Read more about pink balance bikes.
This is also available in the same price range from £65 – £75.
